World of Warcraft unveils Classic Plus as World of Warcraft Forever

Blizzard has officially introduced World of Warcraft: Forever during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026, confirming months of speculation about a “Classic+” version for dedicated World of Warcraft enthusiasts. This new iteration offers a unique blend of the game’s early days with progressive new features.

A Permanent Classic+ Experience

Set to launch globally on 4th November, World of Warcraft: Forever is described as a “permanent home for WoW”, existing alongside both Modern and Classic titles. Blizzard’s intent is to merge the classic nostalgia of the original with forward-thinking content, bringing together old-school gameplay and new adventures under a unified subscription model.

Chronologically, the story takes place after the Forsaken Kingdom campaign but before the inaugural Molten Core raid. Fans will revisit the iconic continents with new enhancements. The level cap will remain at 60, capturing the meticulous pace of the game’s early years, while also introducing a host of contemporary features.

Expanded World and Features

When it arrives, the game will feature three new zones, more than 1,000 fresh quests, and nine new dungeons. Players can look forward to two new raids, compatible with both 10- and 20-player groups, plus an expanded lineup of races and classes. A key highlight is the introduction of the Skyborne, a completely new playable race with its exclusive starting area.

No additional purchase is necessary to access World of Warcraft: Forever, as Blizzard has stated it will be part of any standard WoW subscription. Upgrade packs—for those craving additional perks or early access—will be available as optional extras. The Skyborne Heroic Pack lets players try the new race and starting zone ahead of others, while the Skyborne Epic Pack provides beta access, 30 days of game time, and special cosmetic bonuses.

Beta Test and Developer Insights

Pre-purchasing eligible upgrade packs unlocks access to the beta test beginning Thursday, 17th September, allowing eager adventurers to explore the world ahead of launch. Insights into the updated world and systems were discussed at BlizzCon by the team: senior game director Ion Hazzikostas, lead Classic designer Tim Jones, lead software engineer Nora Mills, and associate production director Clay Stone.

Speculation regarding this title gained traction in the lead-up to BlizzCon, especially after updates to the official website hinted at “wow 2” within the site’s code, and discussions drew connections to Blizzard’s recent activities with Diablo 2. The Classic+ vision Blizzard outlined provides fans with a clearer sense of direction for the evolving franchise.
