Wayfair increases sports investment to strengthen brand values

Aiming to underscore its commitment to value and dependable service, Wayfair has introduced a sweeping new brand initiative focusing on home furnishings services, highlighted by NFL player Matthew Stafford and a marked expansion in its sports advertising efforts.

Football Star Partnership Drives Wayfair’s New Ad Push

Launching the “Wayfair Delivers” brand platform, the home retailer chose Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford as a campaign ambassador. The initiative kicked off with a 30-second television commercial that spotlights Stafford, his wife Kelly, and their four daughters as they enhance their home through Wayfair’s offerings. Produced mainly in-house and supported by Paramount Media Labs, this spot debuted during “Monday Night Football” broadcasts on ABC and ESPN, reaching dedicated football viewers.

Wayfair’s investment in football programming has grown substantially, with advertising spending on football-carrying networks now at five times previous levels. This strategic escalation correlates with an increase in Q2 orders, particularly from mobile users—64.1% of all Q2 orders were made via mobile device, up from 62.9% in the prior year.

Highlighting Affordability and Expanding Media Presence

The “Wayfair Delivers” campaign supports the retailer’s broader brand objectives by highlighting affordability and trustworthiness as key brand pillars. The debut commercial cleverly contrasts Matthew Stafford’s elite athletic career with the everyday messiness of family life and illustrates how Wayfair’s products can help create a more organized, comfortable home. Features like Wayfair Verified, which ensures products have been vetted for quality, and the Wayfair Rewards loyalty program are also prominently featured in the campaign.

Expanding beyond traditional broadcasts, the “Wayfair Delivers” campaign is appearing across multiple channels, such as linear TV, connected TV, and social media platforms. Viewers can expect to see ads aired on leading networks including ABC, ESPN, CBS, and NBC.

Strengthening Presence in Sports Amid Sector Headwinds

Demonstrating its deepening investment in the sports sector, Wayfair has taken on sponsorship and set outfitting duties for the CBS Sports’ Sunday morning football pregame show. Additionally, through its collaboration with Bleacher Report, Wayfair is confirmed as the sponsor for the B/R NFL Draft Live in April 2027.

These advertising and branding moves come as the overall home furnishings market struggles with declining sales. Yet, Wayfair’s financial performance bucks the trend, reporting Q2 revenue growth of 7.5% year-over-year and reaching 10.6 million total orders—a 6% increase compared to last year (source).

Expanding Stores and Advancing Digital Innovation

Alongside ramped-up advertising, Wayfair is enhancing its digital customer journey through its collaboration with Google, aiming to deliver AI-driven product recommendations and search. In parallel, the company is bolstering its brick-and-mortar presence with a series of pilot stores in Ohio and other locations.

By doubling down on sports engagement and championing the values consumers prioritize, Wayfair is tapping into the enthusiasm of live sports audiences—who make up nearly half the U.S. population based on Emarketer data (source). The retailer’s new brand approach is designed to strengthen customer loyalty and drive long-term growth as it faces a competitive and rapidly evolving retail landscape.
