Silent Hill Townfall trailer reveals PS5 exclusivity duration

An in-depth gameplay trailer has officially unveiled Silent Hill: Townfall’s initial launch plans, specifying a period of timed exclusivity for PlayStation 5 that will last at least six months. The preview featured over 18 minutes of new footage and confirmed that the release is scheduled for September 24 on both PS5 and PC.

First Substantial Gameplay Driven by First-Person Perspective

The trailer grants fans a detailed first glimpse at Silent Hill: Townfall gameplay, following protagonist Simon Ordell as he explores the mysterious, fog-laden Shorefront of St. Amelia, a fictional Scottish island. It highlights atmospheric exploration, searching interior locations, item gathering, and coming face-to-face with classic Silent Hill horrors—all without divulging any major plot twists.

As the first mainline Silent Hill game designed entirely around a first-person perspective, Townfall leverages this viewpoint to make its psychological horror elements even more immersive.

Details on Timed Exclusivity for Consoles

Beyond its gameplay reveals, the trailer contained key notes about how the game will be released across platforms. Townfall will launch as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive, debuting simultaneously on PC. The fine print was explicit: for the first six months after the September 24 release, the title will remain off other console platforms.

This indicates a potential arrival on additional systems—possibly Xbox Series X/S or the rumored Nintendo Switch 2—sometime after March 2027. No official information on further platforms has been released so far.

Development for Townfall is being overseen by Screen Burn Interactive (formerly No Code), with publishing handled by Konami in partnership with Annapurna Interactive. This collaboration seeks to energize the series with a unique approach to psychological horror in a refreshed gameplay format.

Fresh Directions for a Classic Series

The launch of Townfall symbolizes just one piece of a larger overhaul for the Silent Hill brand. Back in 2022, Konami announced major new efforts to reinvigorate the franchise, including projects like the Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill f, Townfall, Silent Hill Ascension, and the film “Return to Silent Hill.” Another entry, Silent Hill: Short Message, also launched without advance notice.

Producer Motoi Okamoto has stated that future direction for the franchise centers on “cherishing a strong psychological horror narrative.” With that core in place, Okamoto believes the series is free to diversify gameplay experiences: “We feel that as long as we keep the narrative core intact, there’s very much room to keep the gameplay style changing,” he said, referring to the range of current and forthcoming projects.

With the September 24 debut, Silent Hill: Townfall begins the next chapter in the franchise, available first to PS5 and PC gamers. Anyone hoping to see the title on other consoles will need to wait at least six months after the initial release, as clarified by the new trailer.
