Phasmophobia update brings Restricted maps and VR improvements

PC and PlayStation players can now enjoy the latest update for ghost-hunting hit Phasmophobia, which delivers an extensive Quality of Life overhaul. This release offers brand new map variants, streamlined evidence mechanics, and significant upgrades for virtual reality. According to Kinetic Games, Xbox support is expected to follow soon.

Streamlined Maps and Faster Game Flow

Among the most notable changes is the debut of “Restricted” versions for fan-favorite maps: Prison, Brownstone High School, and Point Hope. These condensed maps are crafted to make investigations quicker and bring added variety, responding to ongoing requests from the player community for shorter and more dynamic sessions that avoid lengthy time commitments.

This content builds on the groundwork established by the first Quality of Life update from July, which overhauled the 13 Willow Street map and introduced various enhancements. That earlier patch laid the basis for this round of improvements.

Improved Evidence Mechanics

Players will notice an upgraded evidence-gathering experience, with immediate feedback now built into Photo Cameras, Video Cameras, and Sound Recorders. Thanks to the addition of faded overlays and yellow LEDs, players can instantly see which evidence they’ve already logged, making it unnecessary to constantly revisit the in-game journal and keeping the action seamless.

Coordination has also been improved: now, ghost types or evidence picked by one teammate automatically become visible to everyone. This new tweak helps teams coordinate more efficiently and removes a source of confusion from the setup phase.

VR Tweaks and New Death Effects

Virtual reality fans benefit from updated character model tracking that better mirrors real-life movements, plus a suite of bug fixes based on community feedback. These enhancements promise a smoother and more immersive VR experience as players search for spirits using their headsets.

When it comes to player deaths, visuals have grown more eerie. After dying, characters now sport greyer skin and mistier eyes, while voice chat is immediately muted to enhance realism for everyone left alive.

Addressing Player Concerns

This substantial update follows a recent announcement by Kinetic Games that Phasmophobia’s full 1.0 launch is postponed to 2027. The studio cited the need to focus on delivering quality after widespread criticism of the previous Player Character Update. Admitting they “missed the mark,” Kinetic Games has accepted responsibility and apologized to its community, highlighting its promise to continually improve and noting these efforts in detailed patch notes and hotfixes.

The developers assured their community, “We’ve read feedback from across the entire community. The frustration and disappointment has been clear.” As updates continue to roll out, the studio emphasizes that player suggestions will directly shape the path of Phasmophobia, especially as they work toward the eventual 1.0 launch.

With this new patch live, players can discover all the recent changes now, and more updates are promised as Kinetic Games continues refining the spooky co-op experience towards its long-term goals.
