Fans have finally been treated to two-and-a-half minutes of gameplay footage from EA Motive’s highly anticipated Iron Man game, marking the most in-depth glimpse at the project since its reveal four years ago.
Appearing first on Resetera, the leaked video displays Iron Man dashing through what looks like an enormous open-world city. Viewers can see smooth transitions between soaring at high speed and engaging enemies in dynamic ground skirmishes. An emphasis on rapid, versatile movement is clear, letting players switch effortlessly between flight and on-foot action.
Suit Customization and Combat Mechanics Unveiled
A key highlight from the leak is the presence of multiple Iron Man suits with customization options. The video features Tony Stark—whose appearance isn’t a direct match to Robert Downey Jr. but shows a striking likeness—standing among various suits and interacting with what appears to be a panel interface for upgrading or altering his armor. An impressive segment reveals the suit assembling around Stark in real-time, pointing toward an in-depth customization experience in the finished game.
Combat appears thoughtfully developed, with Iron Man wielding a range of weaponry, including laser blasts, his signature chest-mounted repulsor, rockets, and a selection of advanced gadgets. Hand-to-hand encounters look impactful, featuring Iron Man flinging foes with powerful force into environmental hazards and objects.
Cinematic Elements, Locations, and Development State
Besides the action, the footage reveals a narrative style that leans cinematic, as Tony Stark makes his way to Marvel staples like the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier. Other scenes tease new environments—including a bamboo forest—and interactions with both unidentified and familiar characters, suggesting a blend of known and original figures from the Marvel universe.
The leak is attributed to an “Aug26 test“, pointing to a recent build of the game, though much of the footage remains incomplete and in-progress, highlighting ongoing development. The end of the trailer features a “Release Window” card without specifying when the game will launch.
In a lighthearted move, the credits list “Ultron” as executive producer and “The Hulk” as world director, which are most likely humorous placeholder names rather than actual staff credits.
History and Canceled Iron Man Projects
The Iron Man project from EA Motive was initially confirmed in 2020 as part of a larger lineup of Marvel collaborations. While multiple games were initially teased by the publisher, a report later revealed the cancellation of EA’s Black Panther game and the subsequent closure of its studio, which led to additional layoffs.
Iron Man games have had a rocky development past. Back in 2012, Avalanche Studios, the team behind Just Cause, worked on an Iron Man title, footage for which also leaked online this week. Most recently, in 2020, Iron Man featured as a playable character in Marvel’s Avengers by Square Enix, but the game was met with only modest reviews compared to the more warmly received Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation.
While EA Motive has so far declined to address the legitimacy or details of the leaked content, the new gameplay has reenergized interest in the title, leaving fans eager for more news regarding its release window and future progress updates.
