Social commerce is reshaping retail strategy in the U.S., and leading brands are prioritizing the recruitment of specialists to oversee their TikTok Shop operations.
As TikTok Shop’s influence rapidly expands, businesses from various industries are vying for talent to help them tap into the platform’s surging user base. Increasingly, American companies are establishing new internal positions dedicated to planning and managing TikTok Shop initiatives, underscoring a heightened commitment to the channel.
Surge in In-House TikTok Shop Recruitment Amid Social Commerce Growth
The owner of Harry’s, Mammoth Brands, is searching for a head of TikTok Shop who will steer its efforts across its brand portfolio. Stila, a cosmetics company, is on the lookout for a manager of TikTok Shop marketing to boost its livestream selling activities. At the same time, BaubleBar—a leader in jewelry and accessories—has listed a role for a TikTok Shop manager to handle creator collaborations and campaign management. Baby product provider Jool Baby is also hiring, having introduced an e-commerce marketplace manager role to guide both TikTok Shop and related social commerce endeavors.
These recruitment efforts come in response to intensifying U.S. engagement with TikTok Shop, particularly among younger demographics buying everything from clothing to groceries. After TikTok Shop’s launch in the U.S. in September three years ago, adoption climbed swiftly: according to Consumer Edge, TikTok Shop accounted for 2% of U.S. e-commerce spend in July, up from 1.2% the year before. Data further reveals that sales for major brands on TikTok Shop nearly doubled in 2025, while small businesses using the platform posted a 66% jump in sales during the same timeframe.
Growing Momentum for Dedicated TikTok Shop Roles
Previously, responsibilities for TikTok Shop were often merged with general social media or marketing roles, or assigned to external agencies focused on TikTok content. As competition heats up and stakes rise, businesses see advantage in bringing expertise in-house, which accelerates content output, improves trend response, and provides comprehensive management of TikTok-driven sales and customer engagement strategies.
When Stila launched on TikTok Shop U.S. in March 2024, inspired by the channel’s momentum in China, the brand quickly began seeing it as crucial for both online transactions and overall brand awareness. Figures from TikTok show that over 100,000 Stila units have been sold on the platform, with standout products and bundled offers performing especially well. The brand credits TikTok-driven exposure for contributing to sales not only online but also at Stila’s physical stores and through its website and Amazon presence.
Melissa Rogers, Stila’s vice president of digital and brand marketing, emphasized the need for advanced livestream selling expertise. She described the organization’s livestreaming efforts as “in the baby stages” and expressed the need for a TikTok-savvy strategist to develop a content plan that drives both engagement and commercial results. “We require a creative thinker who knows what resonates with viewers and brings commercial insight to our content decisions,” Rogers explained.
Stila has even invested in a livestream studio within its headquarters, enabling team members and leadership to appear in live broadcasts quickly, and streamlining content production. Though an affiliate agency is still involved in some areas, Stila believes that hands-on, in-house management is key to faster trend response and operational agility.
Scarcity of Skilled TikTok Shop Professionals
With approximately 97,000 units sold to date on TikTok Shop U.S., Jool Baby counts itself among the top-performing baby brands on the platform. TikTok Shop accounts for nearly 5% of its total revenue, but the company—like others—faces difficulty finding experienced TikTok Shop leaders. Founder and president Judah Bergman noted that most available experts prefer agency work, attracted by favorable commissions and direct partnerships through TikTok, limiting the candidate pool for brands seeking talent that combines content creation skills with retail marketing savvy to boost average order value.
Bergman highlighted TikTok Shop’s frequent changes to its fee structure and platform opportunities, saying, “TikTok Shop changes very rapidly—they keep changing the fees, and they change the opportunities.” He pointed out the importance of hiring someone who not only stays on top of evolving rules but also manages profitability amid constant platform shifts. Recruiting such specialized managers remains a major challenge.
Both Stila and Jool Baby continue their search for talent who can thoughtfully combine creative prowess with strong business instincts. Striking this balance—being both a camera-ready creator and a strategic sales planner—represents, in Rogers’ words, “the sweet spot—not only for the role, but also for the channel itself.”
