Battlefield 6 adds extensive Top Gun collaboration and new mode

Battlefield 6 recently launched a high-profile collaboration with Top Gun, introducing jet-themed gameplay and two fresh multiplayer modes available for a limited window. As the new content rolls out, many in the community are urging developers to keep the most popular elements available beyond the event’s close.

Battlefield 6’s Top Gun Collaboration Unfolds in Season 4

The latter part of Season 4 of Battlefield 6 introduces a temporary event that takes heavy inspiration from the Top Gun universe. Included in this update are both movie-inspired character and vehicle skins and the addition of two sought-after gameplay experiences: Carrier Strike and Fighter Sweep. While the event officially wraps up on 15th September, it’s still uncertain if any of these new additions, such as the game modes and vehicles, will stick around. Battlefield Studios has indicated that both modes are intrinsically linked to the Top Gun crossover, highlighting the franchise’s visuals throughout new in-game sequences and scripted scenes.

Modern Naval Warfare Revived in Carrier Strike

Carrier Strike mode stands out as a centerpiece of the event, paying homage to the fan-favorite Titan mode from Battlefield 2142, yet thoroughly updated for current players. The action unfolds on a reimagined Wake Island, ramping up the intensity of the series’ naval combat. Each team of 32 begins on an aircraft carrier, creating both a sense of nostalgia and a clear nod to Top Gun’s memorable cinematic moments. Jets launch with a dynamic, movie-inspired takeoff, giving participants an immersive in-cockpit experience similar to the Battlefield 3 Good Hunting mission.

Players must capture missile batteries on the map, firing them at the enemy carrier to chip away at its health. Once its defenses have been sufficiently weakened, players can storm the interior to plant explosives and potentially win the match with a dramatic finish. This version features a significant twist: jets can now use air-to-ground weapons to deal direct damage to the carriers, and other vehicles and infantry also participate in the assault. Moreover, capturing certain goals within the same sector will automatically activate anti-air defenses, which dramatically impact strategies in the skies.

Fighter Sweep and Two-Seater Jet Gameplay

Fighter Sweep, the additional new mode, sets up six pairs of players—each controlling jets—in a high-octane dogfight. Teams alternate between engaging aerial opponents and targeting ground objectives in their scramble to amass 1,000 points before their rivals. The arrival of two-seater jets allows squadmates to work together in a single aircraft, though event participants have observed that dividing forces among separate jets can give better results, pointing to possible balancing concerns.

A new aircraft, the “F-74A Seacat,” clearly takes cues from Top Gun’s iconic F-14 Tomcat, although its name is altered in-game to address copyright issues. While the idea of two-person jets isn’t exclusive to Top Gun and could remain in the game, the jets designed specifically to resemble movie vehicles might only be temporary. If these models are to persist, slight redesigns or reskins will likely be necessary to avoid licensing barriers once the event ends.

Will These Modes Persist Past the Event?

Alongside newly themed skins and other cosmetics, the question remains as to which features will persist after 15th September. The Top Gun branding could be removed, potentially making some of the event’s original modes permanent, but Battlefield Studios has yet to confirm any long-term plans. Veteran fans especially appreciate the Carrier Strike mode, crediting it with revitalizing large-scale multiplayer showdowns reminiscent of the franchise’s golden age.

With the event’s conclusion approaching, Battlefield 6’s developers face mounting pressure from players who hope that these celebrated updates won’t vanish after the limited-time window, but rather become a permanent part of the game’s ongoing evolution.
