Gap features Obsession star in new fall denim campaign

Gap’s latest fall campaign, “Denim on your own,” introduces a creative partnership between rising film talent Inde Navarrette—who captured audiences in the horror hit “Obsession”—and musician Malcolm Todd. A fresh take on Robyn’s 2010 anthem “Dancing on My Own,” performed by Todd for this initiative, anchors a campaign spot reminiscent of a music video, with Navarrette and Todd moving energetically through brightly lit, minimalist sets outfitted in the newest GapDenim pieces.

Spotlighting Talent Through a Multi-Faceted Rollout

Upon its launch on Tuesday, Gap’s new campaign took over a spectrum of channels: Gap’s digital presence, social networks, email newsletters, brick-and-mortar outlets, and outdoor advertising all showcase the creative assets. Striking billboards were unveiled in Times Square and Sunset Boulevard, backed by a comprehensive paid media push across YouTube, TikTok, Meta, and Pinterest. Gap is also leveraging partnerships with digital creators to drive attention this fall.

The commercial places Navarrette in the Mid-Rise Straight Taper Jean and Todd in the ’90s Loose Jean, underscoring the emphasis on versatile, flattering fits. The fall 2026 collection boasts updated shapes alongside utility-inspired hues, reinforcing the brand’s blend of nostalgia and current style trends as the back-to-school season kicks into gear.

Youth-Centric Strategy and Creative Credits

With “Denim on your own,” Gap underlines its continuing commitment to fostering new talent and encouraging individuality. By featuring Navarrette and Todd, both gaining visibility and popularity with Gen Z, the campaign connects with a youthful demographic. Todd’s involvement, set against his upcoming sold-out North America tour for “Do That Again,” strengthens the campaign’s musical foundation.

Directed by Tanu Muiño, the campaign brings together a notable creative team: Calvin Leung, Gap’s Head of Creative, led the direction; fashion and visual elements came from Alastair McKimm, and Bjorn Loos contributed as photographer for the project.

Leveraging Nostalgia and Previous Successes

This launch builds upon Gap’s recent series of music-inspired, nostalgia-driven marketing efforts. In the previous month, Gap teamed with Hailey Bieber for a ’90s themed collection, “The Hailey Jean,” with “Linger” by The Cranberries featured in supporting ads. Earlier, a collaboration with girl group Katseye spotlighted Kelis’s 2003 hit “Milkshake,” generating 8 billion media impressions and over 500 million views worldwide while driving double-digit growth in Gap’s denim category (details here).

Gen Z Reconnection and Retail Impact

Culture-focused advertising has helped Gap attract younger shoppers—especially those drawn to turn-of-the-century mall style and highly engaged online. The results have shown in the company’s bottom line: Gap saw a 10% rise in comparable year-over-year sales, bringing revenue to $796 million in Q1 and achieving its tenth straight quarter of positive comparable sales (source).

By combining references to the past, fresh faces, and musical authenticity, Gap—with “Denim on your own”—continues to cement its relevance for Gen Z shoppers while building momentum from recent campaign successes.
