Walmart adds Dunkin delivery option to online orders

Now, Walmart customers have the option to include Dunkin’ food and beverages in their delivery orders, as the company enhances its role in restaurant delivery services.

Dunkin’ Delivery Now Offered to Walmart Shoppers

On Thursday, the retailer revealed that shoppers may now choose Dunkin’ menu offerings through both the Walmart website and app. The initial rollout happens at Walmart’s 150 in-store Dunkin’ locations, and the service is planned to soon reach most of Dunkin’s 10,000 store network across the country, including those outside of Walmart stores.

This development follows Walmart’s June introduction of Subway orders on its platform—the company’s first venture into restaurant express delivery. The Dunkin’ addition underscores Walmart’s intent to build a strong presence in direct restaurant food delivery to customers anywhere.

Partnership with Inspire Brands Drives Delivery Expansion

The ramp-up in restaurant delivery comes through collaboration with Inspire Brands, Dunkin’s parent company. Greg Cathey, Walmart’s senior vice president of e-commerce fulfillment transformation, described the effort as one designed to blend shopping and dining into one seamless digital experience. Cathey emphasized the unique value and convenience that comes with this offering.

Depending on a customer’s address and location, Dunkin’ now appears automatically as an option in the Walmart app under the “restaurants” tab for those who qualify for the new service.

Omnichannel Growth at the Forefront of Restaurant Delivery

This latest move aligns with Walmart’s broader commitment to omnichannel expansion. John David Rainey, Chief Financial Officer, recently reiterated in an earnings call that physical stores play a vital role in the company’s digital evolution: “The more omni we become, the more important our stores become — not less important, more important.” Using brick-and-mortar locations as central points for both delivery and in-person shopping is a pillar of Walmart’s current approach.

Walmart U.S. experienced a 43% increase in store-fulfilled delivery during the second quarter, with the gain credited to quicker delivery options and an expanded online assortment. Roughly 37% of these store-fulfilled orders arrived in under three hours, as outlined in the company’s Q2 FY27 earnings presentation.

Retailers Face Off in the Restaurant Delivery Race

Similar initiatives by rivals show a broader trend. Target brought Starbucks orders to its Drive Up pickup service in 2022 and quickly increased the availability, allowing customers greater flexibility for food and beverage pickup both at the curb and by scaling the program soon thereafter.

By leveraging partnerships with notable restaurant chains and emphasizing both convenience and speed, Walmart aims to redefine the customer delivery experience and tighten its grip on the overlap between retail shopping and restaurant dining, as highlighted by its latest inclusion of Dunkin’ in its delivery ecosystem.
