Final Fantasy 7 Revelation set for 2027, Resonance demo out now

Square Enix has officially locked in 8th April, 2027 as the worldwide release date for the highly anticipated finale of the remake trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

Unprecedented Multiplatform Global Launch

Revealed by director Naoki Hamaguchi during Sony’s State of Play livestream, this new entry will become available on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, marking a series first. Never before has a Final Fantasy VII title launched across all major platforms at the same time, worldwide. While a ‘spring 2027’ window had previously been hinted, the new announcement finally confirms the precise date for expecting players around the globe.

The Finale of the Remake Saga

Serving as the conclusion to the three-part reimagining which debuted with Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy VII Revelation promises to expand and retell the memorable climax of the original RPG. Players will join Cloud and his allies as they attempt to thwart Sephiroth’s scheme that could doom the planet. Their desperate effort to prevent a fatal meteor crash also forces them to confront the emergence of the planet’s powerful Weapons—ancient defenders whose attempts to save the world might endanger humanity itself.

The newest State of Play showcase treated fans to gameplay highlights, featuring the return of the Highwind—Cid’s famed airship—now integrated as a means of traversing the game’s vast territories. Developers confirmed this title as the trilogy’s largest, incorporating every setting from prior entries alongside brand new locations crafted just for this grand finale. The project draws inspiration from the scale of the original Final Fantasy VII’s last disc, aiming for a comprehensive and dramatic sendoff for long-time fans.

Final Fantasy Resonance Demo Available Now

Square Enix also pulled back the curtain on a demo for its upcoming HD-2D RPG, Final Fantasy Resonance, which can be downloaded immediately. This trial version, approximately 5GB in size, covers the first chapter and offers between three and five hours of gameplay. Players can carry over their progress from the demo to the full game when it arrives next month, mirroring the publisher’s tradition of giving fans a valuable jumpstart on both characters and narrative progression.

Although Square Enix originally unveiled this demo during a PlayStation 5-focused event, it is also instantly playable on the original Switch, the Switch 2, and Xbox platforms. This inclusive release strategy highlights Square Enix’s ongoing dedication to delivering early access opportunities and day-one sharing across both established and new hardware.

Excitement Builds for Both Major Releases

With Final Fantasy VII Revelation set to close out a cherished storyline in April 2027 and Final Fantasy Resonance providing players with a robust preview experience before its forthcoming launch, Square Enix is gearing up for a year that has the franchise’s community counting down the days. State of Play presentations and newly released gameplay footage have further intensified the anticipation as both projects approach their respective release dates.
