With over 2,000 stores nationwide serving as fulfillment hubs, Home Depot has introduced a rapid express delivery network, enabling most customers to receive eligible products in three hours or less.
On Tuesday, Home Depot announced the nationwide expansion of its express delivery initiative, allowing customers in thousands of locations to obtain merchandise within three hours. Leveraging its comprehensive network of more than 2,000 U.S. stores as distribution centers, the retailer is utilizing its advanced supply chain systems, according to a press release issued this week.
Accessible Express Delivery for Thousands of Products
Professional contractors as well as DIY shoppers can now have qualifying items—such as paint, hardware, tools, and plumbing supplies—delivered directly to their homes, often in less than an hour. The majority of major markets are served for a $7 flat fee, while Los Angeles customers will be charged $10, a Home Depot spokesperson said. Participation in the program does not require a subscription or special membership.
On the Home Depot website, eligible items for express delivery are clearly marked on product pages and at checkout for thousands of SKUs, so customers know which products qualify for this speedy fulfillment option.
Enhanced Delivery Timelines and Supply Chain Improvements
Jordan Broggi, Executive Vice President of Interconnected Retail, recently stated during an earnings call that “the majority of those deliveries are actually happening in less than one hour.” He also noted Home Depot’s dedication to narrowing this timeframe further in the coming months, following pilot phases in select markets prior to the national launch.
Executive Vice President of Merchandising, Billy Bastek, highlighted a 45% reduction in U.S. delivery lead times over the past 18 months. “We are encouraged with the positive performance we are seeing in these markets and will continue to expand population coverage and SKUs throughout the year,” he commented to financial analysts.
Significant investments in logistics and supply chain enhancements enable this new service. Additionally, Home Depot operates specialized delivery centers to rapidly ship specific categories, such as lighting, vanities, and building materials.
Expanding Delivery Options
Home Depot’s commitment to fast delivery extends beyond express service. The company’s press release notes that over 65% of in-stock parcel orders are fulfilled for same-day or next-day arrival, a result of coordinated distribution between local stores and delivery centers. When it comes to big and bulky items, 55% of eligible orders are delivered within two days.
Customers can take advantage of free same-day delivery with a minimum $25 purchase if orders are placed before the daily deadline, and next-day appliance delivery now covers 60% of the U.S. population. Ann-Marie Campbell, Senior Executive Vice President, mentioned improvements to the appliance delivery process, with Home Depot directly offering a select inventory for next-day service in targeted markets.
The Road Ahead: Continuing Fulfillment Improvements
This national rollout further strengthens Home Depot’s strategy to streamline logistics and enhance the shopping experience. Company leaders have stated that the express delivery program will see additional product categories and expanded geographic coverage over the next year.
