Modern Warfare 4 beta update brings new map mode and quieter footsteps

The first major patch for the Modern Warfare 4 beta has just been rolled out by Infinity Ward, following substantial player input gathered during the Early Access phase. Delivered on August 22, 2026, this update makes important tweaks to weapon balance, sound design, map elements, and resolves numerous bugs and stability problems.

Audio and Weapon Adjustments Take Priority

Addressing a key concern among early testers, Infinity Ward has significantly reduced both the volume and range of enemy footstep and equipment noises. The intention, as highlighted in the developer’s official patch notes blog post, is to ensure approaching threats are audible but limit the precision of their locations over distance. The studio has confirmed these changes will be iteratively revisited during ongoing beta testing.

Weapon balancing arrives with this patch, targeting guns like the ISO Nightshade SMG and Oris 8.6 marksman rifle—both now deal less damage at range and have nerfed headshot multipliers. Attachment balancing includes substantial reductions to Frangible Rounds, whose slow effect now lasts 26.8% less and impacts 21.4% less than before. The team describes these as the start of broader time-to-kill and weapon performance adjustments as the beta progresses.

Beta Content Expands: New Map, New Mode

With this patch, players gain access to the Cachette map and the new mode, Inflation. In Inflation, participants earn cash by eliminating enemies, with High Value Targets (HVTs) rewarding bonus currency and becoming visible to all players as marked objectives. Cachette increases the map count to four, which unlocks the previously promised map voting feature.

Visual tweaks are now live on Transit 213, which features lightened dark areas and improved color balance to aid player visibility. The other battlegrounds remain unchanged for this patch cycle.

Technical Fixes and Ongoing Issues

The patch also resolves a variety of technical and gameplay problems. Issues such as being stuck on the Mobility Course, problems with controller reconnection, errors found in the Gunsmith, and recurring lobby animations have been corrected. Menu navigation should now be smoother, and continued improvements for the Secure Attestation Wizard ensure better stability for PC users during the beta. Further details are available at Activision Support.

Some challenges remain: joining in progress hasn’t yet been reinstated for Kill Block mode due to a round transition bug, while certain lethal grenades may impact frame rates—both are still under review by the development team.

Timeline and Access Details for Beta Participation

The Early Access portion of the beta, exclusive to those who pre-ordered, will continue until August 25. The Open Beta becomes available for all players between August 28 and September 1. Details about which maps and modes would launch in beta were first made public at the Call of Duty: Next showcase event.

PC gamers must activate TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot to join the beta, with more information about requirements and troubleshooting accessible via official support resources.

Looking Ahead: Ongoing Development

With additional updates and new content on the horizon, Infinity Ward assures the community of regular improvements, guided by player feedback and in-game analytics. The developers have thanked everyone participating for their feedback and continued engagement, maintaining that transparency and updates will be prominent throughout the beta process.
